Is Albendazole Safe for Children and Pregnant Women?
Quote from graemeclark on 2. August 2024, 7:18Albendazole 400 mg is generally considered safe for children over the age of 1 year when used to treat parasitic infections. However, its safety in pregnant women is more complex. Albendazole is classified as a Category C drug by the FDA, meaning animal studies have shown potential risks to the fetus, and there are no well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
It is typically avoided during the first trimester and used with caution later in pregnancy, only if the benefits outweigh the risks. Always consult a healthcare provider before administering Albendazole to children or pregnant women.
