Recently moved to Austin from Ohio and I'm trying to find things to do on weekends

Hi everybody. Recently moved to Austin from Ohio and I'm trying to find things to do on weekends that get me out of the apartment and maybe meet a few people. I googled a few studios but it's hard to tell from websites which ones are actually good and which are just pretty Instagram pages. I'm interested in pottery, never tried it. Budget is reasonable but I'm not looking to pay hundreds for a membership before I know if I like it. Any recommendations for a studio downtown that's welcoming to newcomers?

Welcome to Austin. I had the same problem when I moved here, everything looks good online. When I searched for pottery classes near me in Austin I ended up at Pottery Studio 1 downtown, mostly because they let you book a single class without any membership. Turned out to be a good call. The vibe is friendly, people come alone, in pairs, sometimes small groups, and you naturally end up chatting while your hands are covered in clay. Classes run every day, and weekend hours start at 10 am, so it's easy to make it a Saturday routine. Price for one class is $90, which isn't cheap for a regular habit, but for trying things out it was fine. Tip: go to a morning slot on the weekend, groups tend to be smaller and the instructor has more time for you.
