How Do You Void A Check? To cancel a check, all you have to do is to write VOID in big letters and across the face of the check. Pay no attention to leaving anything on top over the routing or account figures at the bottom. This process makes the check unusable in transactions but it can still be used in purposes such as the initiation of direct deposit or automatic payment.
